Thank God It’s Natural Hair Review and Faux Locs Takeown

Happy August! New month, new goals, you know the drill.

2017 is seriously flying by. We’re getting closer to my favorite season, soon it’ll be time for Thanksgiving and winter protective styles. Speaking of protective styles, I removed my DIY faux locs last week. Thankfully the removal didn’t take as long as the installing. If you watched my IG video on how I threaded my natural braid through the middle of the faux loc, I basically did the opposite by pulling my hair out of the loc. I then cut the loc near the root and could easily remove the knot that held it in place. It took a few more hours to un-braid and detangle my natural hair.

Although the faux locs were cute, I would absolutely not recommend the technique I used. It took way to long, it was extremely tedious and honestly not worth the time. You’d be better off paying a professional who could do it faster. However, if you still want to try doing your own faux locs here and here is alternative way to install them.

After detailing my hair, I couldn’t wait to dive into my new goodies from the brand Thank God It’s Natural. I’ve already pledged my allegiance to the TGIN Honey Miracle Mask so I figured the rest of the line had to be bomb. I wasn’t wrong. Bonus points: TGIN is black owned; you can find it in most Targets, CVS and select beauty supply stores. Keep reading below for my full review and pics!

Moisture Rich Shampoo

I’m still trying to name the scent of this shampoo, but just know it’s heavenly! The sulfate-free cleanser is enriched with coconut oil and amla oil to reduce breakage and increase moisture retention. I washed my hair in sections three times and it still left my hair smooth, moisturized and would you believe defined? Yes! Nothing better than a shampoo that cleanses without drying and makes your curls pop. Wondering about the shine? Here’s my hair right after shampooing.

Honey Miracle Deep Conditioning Mask

Listen, if I was stranded on an island and could only bring three hair products with me, I would pack two tubs of TGIN Honey Miracle Mask. Yes it’s that amazing and yes it’s worth the $15. I know, I know. It took me a while to hand over the coins too, I usually don’t spend more than $10 for a single hair product. But honey (pun intended) this is one product that is truly worth every dime. Luckily, a little of it goes a long way so it should last you a few months. The raw honey moisturizes and softens each curl, while adding shine. It also features jojoba oil which nourishes and prevents breakage. It glides on to my hair and makes detangling a breeze. If you try just one product from this line the honey miracle mask needs to be it.

Green Tea Super Moist Leave in Conditioner

I have a love hate relationship with leave in conditioners. I’ve yet to find one that I can use on its own to moisturize my hair. Maybe they’re not meant to use alone? On days when I don’t feel like doing the entire LOC method, a creamy moisturizing leave in would be ideal. Shea Moisture BJCO leave in is close to perfect, but it’s a little too watery to use alone (try pairing it with raw Shea butter for a bomb twist out). TGIN Green Tea Super Moist leave in conditioner might just be what I’ve been looking for. It a light weight formula and contains argan oil which penetrates the scalp to nourish the roots of your hair, facilitating hair growth After shampooing and deep conditioning I applied the leave in thoroughly on each section. My ends, which are always the driest part, softened and I could run my detangler comb easily through.

Twist and Define Cream

For styling I used the Twist and Define Cream. I prefer creamy stylers to gels and I can tell this one here is going to be a favorite. It’s enriched with coconut and vitamin E oils, for smooth and shiny twists outs for long lasting curl definition and reduced frizz. As I unraveled my flat twists the next morning my hair stayed super curled and defined. Even as I began to separate the curls and pick out my parts, the curl pattern remained and I experience no frizzing. Here are my flat twists results
